Now this award is bestowed annually in the fields of Physics, Chemistry, Medicine, Literature, Economics and Peace. Various Swedish and Norwegian institutions select awardees every year.

Motivation for the award: Roger Penrose received the 50% award for the discovery that black hole formation is a robust prediction of the general theory of relativity. Reinhard Genzel and Andrea Ghez received 25% each for the discovery of a supermassive compact object at the centre of our galaxy.

The Nobel Peace Prize 2020 has been awarded to the World Food Progamme (WFP) for its efforts to combat hunger, for its contribution to bettering conditions for peace in conflict-affected areas and for acting as a driving force in efforts to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war and conflict.
