History of World Photography Day

This day marks the invention of a photographic process called Daguerreotype in the year 1837.

This process was a joint-invention of Lois Daguerre and Joseph Nicephore Niepce. Both the inventors were from France.

The formal announcement about this invention was made by the French Academy of Sciences on 09 January 1839, as per some reports.

Ten days after the announcement about the invention of Daguerreotype, patents of the invention were allotted to the Government of France and it was said that that there was no copyright on the invention.

This invention thus became a gift to the world at large.
